Dog of the Month

Zeatrice
mixed breed

Introducing Zeatrice, also known as “Miss Froggy Legs.” Zeatrice is not currently available for adoption, as she was surrendered to our care with heartworm disease. She is also the mother of the previewed puppies pictured below, and her story is one that we hope will reach the hearts of many. We are sharing her case to provide an important reminder about the need for consistent heartworm prevention. Although the Northwoods region is often associated with tick-borne illnesses such as Lyme disease, we are increasingly seeing dogs test positive for heartworms. Heartworm disease is a serious, potentially fatal condition that is difficult for dogs to endure and costly to treat. The disease is transmitted by mosquitoes, which can carry heartworm larvae from an infected animal to another dog. When left untreated, heartworm disease may cause significant and lasting damage to the heart, lungs, and associated blood vessels. Adult heartworms can grow up to one foot in length and reside in these vital areas, placing strain on a dog’s respiratory and circulatory systems. Clinical signs may include coughing, severe fatigue, weakness, weight loss, difficulty breathing, fluid accumulation, and, in advanced cases, heart failure or sudden collapse. For dogs like Zeatrice, prevention can mean the difference between a healthy future and a long, difficult recovery. At this time, Zeatrice is responding well to treatment, and we are grateful to the veterinary professionals supporting her care. Her recovery will require an extended and carefully managed course of treatment, including continued heartworm care, flea and tick prevention, annual wellness examinations, and follow-up blood testing. Every step of her care matters, and every contribution helps provide the support she needs to continue healing. Those who wish to support Zeatrice’s care or contribute toward the cost of her medications may contact us at foresthumane1@yahoo.com. We will continue to provide updates regarding her progress on our webpage

Meet Bear! Bear is a roaming boy looking for a couch to crash on with his new owner. Although, he can be dog selective, he would make the perfect pet for the family that has no small children due to his excitability.  He walks well on a leash, is kennel trained, loves going for car rides and walks/hikes.  Hes a great little dog that would do well in a home with an active lifestyle, and thrives on play time.  To find out more about Bear, get a hold of us ASAP.

Frazier

Male Lab mix Needs to be an Only Dog

Meet Frazier, the ultimate furry tornado of joy! This young, loyal, and ridiculously smart pup prefers the spotlight as the only animal in the house. He’s potty-trained, soon-to-be neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and all his lab work will be done—talk about a package deal! Frazier would love an active couple or a family with older kids to match his boundless energy (and to keep up with his zoomies). He’s a big-hearted boy just waiting to steal your couch and your heart! SL268240.

He’s almost the size of a Shetland pony—just kidding, but close—and definitely needs space to move around. Riley is a fantastic dog, so get your application in ASAP! SL268240

ALL puppies have to have a cash deposit left that you will receive back when you neuter or will be applied to neuter when they are old enough.  Sorry for the change but we have had issues with PayPal cancelations and worthless checks being used.

Dodger

Whippet/Bull Terrier Mix
image_edited.jpg
Meet the dashing Dodger! This wonderful young adult mixed breed is bursting with energy and playfulness. Dodger is great on a leash but has a knack for being an escape artist. His ideal home would be with someone who leads an active lifestyle and has plenty of space for him to burn off his energy. He is dog selective and due to his deep prey drive for catching rodents, or rabbits, he has to be an only pet.  He may do well in a home where he is the smallest dog, and proper introduction.  But, if he gets off his leash or out of his fenced yard, he absolutely will follow his nose to find a rabbit or squirrel, and you will never catch him again. He is a lover, and a great little dog but he has hunting fever and there is no stopping him.  He is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, has completed blood work, and has been vet-checked. If you’re ready to meet the charming Dodger, submit your application ASAP! SL268240

Meet Miss. Korra.  Korra is our little senior girly that is used to being an only diva in her domain.  She will need a friendly face in a low traffic lifestyle to live her best life. She thrives on attention from her family and people she trusts.  She walks well on her leash and is totally potty trained.  She can't be a girly that goes to dog parks or walked in high traffic areas.  She is a gentle sweetie that cries when you leave her but just needs to be an only pet.  If you think you can offer her a life where she can be the only little lap lover, please get me your application ASAP.

Melly

After her Bath

Sweetest Girly Ever
Photo Jul 06 2026, 3 35 59 PM.jpg

Meet Melly!  Melly has been on a missin to regain her health this summer at the FCHS.  She came to us, almost completely bald, covered in so many skin infections, and other infections that we were not sure she would have a strong enough immune system to overcome them all.  She also came back positive with lymes disease and anaplasmosis, which are both tickborn illnesses.  With three time a week medicated baths, many medications and a lot of love and patience, Melly is thriving and getting better daily.  She needs a special food if you would like to help contribute to her food fund please contact us for a direct link where you can help buy some for her.  Shes not ready for her new home just yet, but even from this video, she has grown more fur back and is even more healthy.  We are just showing our precious Melly in hopes to get the perfect home underway.

Nutty Nette
Female Adult Terrier

1000010533.JPG

Nette us an incredibly sweet girl that is fully vetted and ready to find her forever home.  She absolutely has to be an only pet and is afraid of some men. She is an incredibly sweet girl that loves her treats and attention, but mainly from women or men she trusts.  She would be an amazing little dog to sound the alarm when someone is coming to your door and would thrive in the perfect atmosphere...which would be a low traffic type of home life.  If Nette may sound like the perfect fit for you, please get a hold of me ASAP.

Meet the Gorgeous Vienna!  Vienna came to us full of porcupine quills that were very infected and she has now healed enough to be able to be fixed and find her forever home.  She is very shy at first but full of love and energy.  She is an escape artist and must have a fenced yard or ten by ten enclosure to spend extra time in while working on her leash skills.  She is a very special girl.  To meet Miss Vienna, please get me your application ASAP.

Piper
Young Female Adult Mixed Breed

Meet Piper! Piper is a beautiful, intelligent young adult female looking for her forever home. Like Bindi, she’s an Olympian-level jumper and runner. She could probably do the high jump and catapult over a fence—just kidding! But she’s full of energy, and her perfect home would be with someone who has an active lifestyle. She’s potty trained, very affectionate, and loves attention. Sometimes she can get overexcited, channeling her energy into jumping and twirling like a doggy ballerina. She needs a patient home to help her find a good outlet for her enthusiasm. To meet Piper, submit your application ASAP. SL268240

Mystic

Adult German Shepherd Mix

mystic.jpg
Meet Mystic! She’s a stunning girl who needs to be the only diva in the home. She adores her family but isn’t suited for apartment living or trips to the dog park, as she doesn’t get along with other dogs. Protective and selective about who joins her inner circle, Mystic is a beauty on the lookout for her forever home. She’s strong yet incredibly loving. If you’d like to meet her, send in your application right away. SL 268240

SNEAK PEAK

Puppies will be ready for adoption soon, so keep an eye on this site! Because their mom is heartworm positive and undergoing treatment, there will be special requirements for these pups. They’re healthy and doing great, but will need heartworm preventatives for life, as well as a fenced yard or other suitable setup to meet their needs.  We will be extra picky with these puppies.

Bindi

bindi_edited.jpg
Meet Bindi! She’s a young adult female mix bursting with energy and affection. A talented high jumper, she might even have the skills of an Olympic superstar. Potty trained and fond of spending time in the yard, she’s a sweet dog who needs to be the only female or introduced to others in a controlled setting, as all dogs should be. Bindi would thrive in an active home with a fenced yard or a ten-by-ten enclosure where she can go out unsupervised. She loves people and soaking up attention. If she sounds like the perfect match, send in your application to meet her!
