ADOPTION SAVES TWO LIVES.
The adopted pet will have a safe, caring permanent home with you and
another space becomes available in our Shelter to rescue a homeless pet in need.
*Please Note:
If you become approved to adopt from us and choose to commit to a certain animal that at the time is too young to adopt or may still need vaccinations or spay/neuter, we will accept a deposit to hold the animal for you until he/she is ready to go home but please know that if you change your mind or if your circumstances change and you are no longer able to complete the adoption, these deposits are nonrefundable.
The amount of this "HOLD FEE" varies, is set by Shelter management and depends on the animal in question.
:The Adoption Process:
When you decide to adopt an animal from Forest County Humane Society and
are at least 18 years of age you must:
Fill out an application and meet the animal you wish to adopt.
If you rent please bring a copy of your lease or written approval from your landlord.

After completion of an application, time for approval will vary as we are very short staffed.
The adoption fee includes a spay/neuter, a 5-way vaccine, a CVI exam, a rabies vaccine, a 4 DX Blood Panel check and a round of dewormer on all dogs that are old enough at time of adoption. Puppies and Kittens the potential adopter is responsible for altering when the animal is old enough. If approved to take home a canine, please bring along a leash and collar at time of pick up.

Meet our goofy Snoopy Sue. Snoopy Sue is a beautiful girl that is here looking for her forever home. She is working on trusting people and coming out of her shell. Once she does, she will play and has the cutest wiggle butt when she gets the zoomies imaginable. She would not do well with children and seems afraid of some dogs. Meet Boomer! Boomer is a great boy that is a heart worm survivor! He will need to be on a heartworm preventative, such as Interceptor Plus, and Simperica for flea and tick prevention. We use those here, and they work exceptionally well for us. He is here and doing amazingly well. He walks well on a leash but is a strong male dog. His ideal home would be best as an only pet. Meet Kai! He is not your typical lab mix. He is very strong, very high energy, stubborn and a picky eater. He walks well on a leash but will need a very active family. He gets bored easy and always needs something to engage him. He is very intelligent and protective of everything he loves. He would do best in a family with no small children because he is big and goofy and doesn't realize his size. He would do best as an only dog or someone that understands dog behavior. Meet Angelica... She seems to have the same personality as the Rugrat character she is named after. She is very sweet and adorable, but is hyper and happy. She would not be a good fit for small children or cats/small animals because she likes to nibble a lot and plays rough. She is a puppy, but we are telling their personalities to try and get the best fit for each. We are reserving these puppies for fenced in yard homes only and no apartments. The perfect fit for Chowder would be a very active lifestyle person or couple that would want a dog to be a companion to go on car rides and play ball or take on walks or go camping. Chowder is dog selective so would do best as an only dog home. Since she is so strong, I would say an adult only home at this point. She will be going to dog training classes soon as well.
